With many short life compared to information technology, flash memory in its 16 year history, it shows its "old-timers" style. Early nineties, before entering the flash market; to 2000, the amount of interest has exceeded one billion dollars.
Infineon Technologies Flash director, Peter said: "In memory of the life cycle, we are still in a growing stage." Infineon believes that sales of flash memory still has room to rise and join in the making of the market inputs. Infineon earlier this year announced that its 200-mm DRAM Dresden plant has started production of 512Mb NAND-compatible flash memory chips.
The end of 2004, Infineon plans to use 170-nanometer manufacturing process, manufacturing more than 10,000 wafers per month. In 2007, the company also hopes to become the top three in the NAND market.
In addition, Intel Technology and Manufacturing Group Vice President of Stefan Lai believes that before 2008, flash memory will not be replaced. 2006, Intel will begin using 65-nanometer technology; to 2008, is currently developing a new generation 45-nanometer technology are expected on the market. Stefan Lai felt that the current forecast is still relatively shallow, perhaps 32-nanometer, 22 nanometer technology is entirely possible. But Stefan Lai admitted that from 2008 to 2010, the new technology may replace it.
