Controversial XCP copy protection software

October 2005, worked at Sysinternals, Mark Russinovich exposed Sony BMG  the sales of music CD, using a technology called rootkit hackers, without prior notice to the user, the installation of digital rights management software (DRM) to the user's computer.
 
The software is a British company First 4 Internet have developed, called Extended Copy Protection (referred to as XPC) software, end users is difficult to detect and remove. Which in many countries, which went ahead without telling the user to install software is illegal, and users of the system caused by the serious safety hazard problem, also affects users system performance.

Sony BMG initially offered to remove the software, remove the rootkit installed another later known as the dial-home program. This has resulted in greater safety hazard to another, and so Sony BMG suffered more controversy.

Sony BMG finally provide a real remove software, and recovery of the exchange with XPC music CD. Meanwhile, Sony BMG is facing a number of pieces and therefore the relevant legal proceedings
